ISM Code Compliance in Canary Islands

 

Your Managers have been informed that between September 01, 2007 and November 30, 2007, the Spanish Port State Control authorities in the Canary Islands are implementing a concentrated inspection campaign focusing on ISM Code compliance.

 

The Spanish Maritime Authority inspectors have been instructed to verify that the Safety Management System (SMS) for individual ships is not merely a ‘paper exercise’ and to see that the ship’s master and crew are fully conversant with the SMS procedures.

 

This campaign has been instituted as part of a recommended Paris MoU initiative to ensure companies and their vessels are complying with the ISM Code.

 

All Members are encouraged to make certain that their officers and crew are fully conversant with the ISM Code and associated SMS throughout their global operations.
