In Spring 2004, the Managers instituted the Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) program in the two largest labor supplying countries providing seafarers to Club Member’s ships:  Ukraine and The Philippines.  On 20 February 2006, the Board of Directors of the American Club made it mandatory to use the Club approved clinics in these countries or be subject to a double-retention deductible for illness claims.

Since that time, the Club has expanded the program to include Latvia, Poland, Romania and Russia.  The list of American Club Approved Clinics provides all relevant contact information.

In the coming months the Club will be approving additional clinics in Russia.

It is required that the seafarer use the proper PEME American Club Medical Forms for the relevant country where the PEME is being performed.

For further information on the Club’s loss prevention initiatives, please contact Dr. William Moore, Vice President, Loss Prevention, Risk Control and Technical Services for the Shipowners Claims Bureau at +1 212 847 4542 or william.moore@american-club.com.
