Extended Cargo Liability Insurance
Standard P&I insurance covers the risks faced by operators who carry cargo under contracts that incorporate the Hague-Visby Rules or the U.S Carriage of Goods by Sea Act. Members, however, may have commercial reasons for entering into contracts that either do not incorporate the standard cargo regimes, or that deviate in material ways from such regimes. Entering into such contracts may give rise to liabilities that fall outside standard P&I, and members may wish to obtain additional insurance. Extended Cargo Liability Insurance is intended to address such situations, and can be designed to cover, for example, additional indemnity obligations, waivers of defenses, waivers of recourse actions, waivers of limitation rights and other terms that are not covered under standard P&I cover. |
